Caren, Trump will continue to appear keen. How else can he maintain the grift and attention? After all, he can bow out at any time with any of a thousand excuses. I'm not convinced he will run.

DeSantis already has a chunk of Trump supporters, including my inlaws, who have proven formidable weather vanes. DeSantis has all the grievance stuff the base likes and will continue to shift over.

The likelihood of DeSantis as the Republican nominee would hopefully summon the Democrats from their complacency with Biden.

I can't think of anything more depressing than a rematch of Biden and Trump -- two no-future geriatrics.
