Caren, it presents the opportunity for the Democrats to nominate another. They have Hakeem Jeffries in mind. A long shot but not impossible to get a few sensible Republicans on board. New congress members may feel less pressured to conform and be part of a clown show. Also, there is no particular leader they must obey.

It would be extraordinary if Democrats could pull it off. It would be saving the house from dysfunction.
