Caren, it furthers the case for term limits. I used to think that it should be left to voters, but the incumbent position is such a powerful one it stops younger and the more talented from serving us. The examples that immediately come to mind are Mitch McConnell (serves his state poorly), Joe Biden (old and tired) and even Nancy Pelosi (although she is still very capable).

People in position often get the idea that only they can do the job. History is replete with them -- Winston Churchill, FDR, Juan Peron and two Queen Elizabeths.
