Caren, in a way McCarthy's investigations declare that he has no forward thinking or agenda. It's all fall-back retro stuff with no future in mind -- as if future doesn't exist.

Which is actually pretty dumb because the GOP has a popular base to achieve somethings which are more difficult for Democrats. For example, they could be better positioned to introduce a basic income and even really champion the efforts on climate.

Tony Blair's "NEW Labor Party" in the UK was able to complete an economic transition of Margaret Thatcher that was difficult for the Tories to do.

The Republicans would need to weed out the grifters and the marginally talented (like McCarthy). And the remaining few could launch themselves as "New Republicans".

Of course a horse can be brought to water.
