Caren, I'm surprised Biden didn't receive more of a lift because of his administration's generally good handling of Putin's war in Ukraine. He rallied our European allies -- with some vital help from Zelenskyy.
But then foreign policy had never been a big vote getter.
Ukraine is far from over and some deft management is needed to get us to a safe place. The American population has to be prepared to support a direct military confrontation with Putin's Russia. Are they? I'm not so sure. Without that commitment authoritarian leaders (large and small) will continue to get the upper hand.
Our increasingly antagonistic relationship with China plays into inflation and failure on resuscitating the nuclear deal with Iran makes gas prices higher (and have you tried to buy saffron lately?).
If Biden simply removed the tariffs from Chinese goods, each American household would have an extra $500 on their kitchen tables every year. To offer a $100 gas rebate is counterproductive to climate and makes gas more expensive (although as a part of our pay packets gas has never been cheaper) .
Many thanks. Sorry got away from McCarthy.
