I read the NYT tempering of Harris as realism. The realism of the race's difficulty and "let's keep our feet on the ground." The tone mirrored The Economist's caution, although not pessimism or hostility.

Harris's wave has flattened, and she must get new momentum. Avoiding details is likely sensible, but broad strokes of the American future need bold expressing and will differentiate her from both Biden and Trump.

That Kamala Harris lacks a vision for America worries me -- and perhaps editors at the NYT and The Economist.
