Cailian, the opportunity cost to America (and Central and South America) are considerably more than imagined. For decades, trade agreements and even Latin America's embrace of NAFTA have been hampered by America being seen as a bogeyman because of continued sanctions and isolation of Cuba.

I don't see anywhere in Latin America where an embargo or the threat of one has deterred lean-to socialism.
