Brooks,
Thank you for your thoughtful and intelligent response.
Innovation and economic shifts move the world forward but can be enormously disruptive to many. We have failed to mitigate the downsides. The outstanding results were the election of Trump in America, Brexit in Europe, and possibly the rise of Putin in Russia.
A more robust economic platform for all Americans would help build stronger individuals and communities -- less loneliness and more aspiration nationwide.
Biden has tried to "Build the middle out," but his approach is misguided and will fail. His chip industry jobs cost $M6 each (The Economist). The American industry will NEVER make money and rely on public subsidies for decades. Saving or adding a steel employee costs other Americans $M1 annually, and an auto manufacturing job costs $35,000 and climbing because of even more tariffs.
There are better ways of spending money on people.
A base income is a way to proceed. It's inexpensive to administer, and without targeting directly (the problem with any poverty program), it would benefit the individuals, families, and communities most in need.
Best.
