Brian, perhaps not deny Pence some praise. Sure he said nothing new but was in a helpful direction and many times better than some of his buddies.

I'm not sure that it helped him in a bid for the presidency -- could well be the opposite. He must know his total lack of sex appeal is not a winning trait.
