David Gergen wrote an insightful book, "Hearts Touched with Fire," about leadership substance.

He was a strong proponent of "leaving it to the younger generation" and that Biden should not run for a second term. Obama wasn't as publicly explicit. Unfortunately, Biden was deaf to both.

Should he lose to Trump, the danger for Biden is that he and his legacy will be toast. His vanity may overshadow that reality.

Biden as a puppet? I don't know who is pulling the strings.
