Amiel Handelsman, thoughtful piece.

I support Israel because I want the country to be safe and prosper.

I also believe Israel's response to the horrendous attack on its civilians was a gigantic mistake that will make Israel weaker and poorer.

The Netanyahu Administration took the bait of the terrorist acts to create a war with an impossible mission and dig themselves into an enormous hole with no thought as to how they would clamber out. Should the war end tomorrow, Hamas, macabrely, appears to have won. Moving forward, I don't see Israel changing this around -- certainly not with the current administration.

Although smaller would be desirable, this war keeps Netanyahu in power, and the IDF has an opportunity to remove the egg from its face.

Ironically, there are opportunities to straighten things out. But this will require superior leadership in Tel Aviv, the West Bank, and Washington.

Many thanks. Best.
