Alexander, the Republicans need leadership which they have not had since the Gingrich days when he essentially shut down politics.
Since then, we have had McConnell, who has no interest in policy, and McCarthy, the likely Speaker of the House, who is interested in being Speaker of the House but, unfortunately, is no leader.
Give the Republicans some credit as they will most likely rule the House and possibly the Senate. But they have painted themselves into a corner, particularly with their White House ambitions.
Who have They? Trump if the nominee will lose because he has not added support from last time. DeSantis is their only other contestant because of the MAGA millstone.
While he overwhelmingly won Florida (the Democratic Party packed its bags and left the state), on a national stage, DeSantis will be UNLIKABLE -- a trait that will not make a president.
The Democrats can use the Ron DeSantis rise to get their talent for the 2024 White House. That is NOT Joe Biden. Too old, and the position demands more skill. Secretary Buttigieg is an excellent choice, but we must see the field. My article "Please, Joe, Not Another Term" remains relevant.
Many thanks. Best to you.
