Adebayo, yes, there is no shortage of hypocrisy here.

In addition to the points you make, where was the outcry of social and humanitarian concerns when big sporting events were held in Russia, China, and other authoritarian states? The abuses in Qatar surely pale.

Are we to only have big sporting and cultural events in places we are completely comfortable? This would be isolationism and protectionism no one benefits from -- apart from arrogance.
