Adebayo, there were Maori wars over land rights, which ended with the Treaty of Waitangi (1840). There was no genocide.

From 1867 there were four dedicated Maori seats in the NZ Parliament.

The Maori population was fairly quickly integrated with the Europeans (mainly English and Scottish), From the 1980s, there came a new awareness and pride in the Maori/Polynesian language and culture. Today there remains some poverty in the native population, particularly in the rural and far north.

Best.
