NAFTA was never going to solve the problems created by the neoliberalism and the same Mexicans who were meant to be empowered by the free trade agreement with their large neighbours, were also at the receiving end of globalization, hence the migration in large numbers, but poor whites have been unable to connect the dots.

The living standards of Mexicans increased dramatically (as did Americans) because of NAFTA.
Roughly two-thirds of the migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexican border are not Mexicans.
