The American divide is between cities, with more left and rural parts, mostly right. The mixtures within states don't lend to a Balkanization.

The state with the strongest identity, Texas, is gathering a more liberal population with a Republican government hanging on for dear life. Hence, all the shenanigans. Other southern states are similar.

The U.S.'s income disparity (or economic mobility) has narrowed over the past years. But it remains a concern and part of American discontent.

America is in dire need of excellent leadership. It's not helpful that one party is not working.
