As a child in New Zealand in the 1960s, news of famines in India, China, and many African countries was common. Today, they are confined to war-torn places.

Liberal trade is primarily responsible for the economic rise of the Global South. Increased protectionism adopted by America and the West has already produced a wider economic gap between the two halves of the world.
