A passionate article, Gary.

The way we view housing could do with a change. Detached single properties are wasteful and, as you point out, increasingly expensive.

The typical construction of housing is pretty archaic. It could resemble auto manufacturing way more.

I believe it is possible to design family living that includes the outdoor spaces, privacy, and identity qualities that the suburban house offers but at a fraction of the cost. Often maintenance costs are not tallied. (I owned a house and property in Connecticut that cost over $55,000 annually to maintain and now rent a duplex in Miami for half that amount).

Getting over the social stigma of renting as opposed to owning will lower housing costs. We made that transition with autos long ago, where to lease or buy is now seen as a financial mechanism instead of social status.

Eliminating subsidized mortgages and deductions on the property from Federal tax would lower housing prices (the latter, one of Donald's few successes).

Best to you.
